COURSE FOR NEW ORLEANS

I Came across your Enfield Ravers' pages on the Bay Jazz Club website by chance.

I am Peter Ward, the organiser of the two Enfield Ravers' Riverboat Shuffles in the late 50s. I am now living in Highgate Village N6 and still working in the book business as an authors' agent.

I am in touch regularly with Bob Harrison, Geoff Cooper, Jimmy Garforth and Don Cook (now Don de Silva!).  Bob lives in Paignton, Devon, Geoff in deepest Dorset, Jim in Zurich, Switzerland and Don in Sydney, Australia. I last visited Don last September and I see Jim in Zurich. Don still plays banjo every Sunday at The Strawberry Hills Hotel in Sydney and Jim with The Piccadilly Six in and around Zurich.

I have in front of me the famous photo, published in The Evening News, of the first riverboat shuffle on departure from Charing Cross pier. You or Spike were right in identifying Bill Hollett and Barry the Beetle as well as all the members of the Dauphin Street Six. In addition on the top left with the silly hat on is a guy called Charlie Moxey who is sadly no longer with us. Just behind you in the sailor's hat is me with Bob Harrison to my left. We are either side of you. Behind me is Barry Hotchkiss. The only girls I can identify are Anne Screech at the front with her hand on her legs and Brenda on her left, sitting.

Any ravers who would like to get in touch please email me at peterward39@gmail.com

Cheers mate... Happy Days indeed.

Peter

This is indeed a great pleasure to hear from Pete after all these years (as they say). I have explained in my reply to him, that he has my younger brother Rob (Spud) who was banjoist with the Dauphin Street Six confused with me. (I was their manager and out of shot). We owe Pete a lot for all the fun we had in those happy days.

Thanks Pete - nice newsy stuff - keep in touch eh!

Don
